Usually when the weather is damp, you may find things in your home may have that stale funky mold smell. Once you locate the mold and mildew on your items try and remove them as soon as you can. Removing the mildew stain that has been collecting for a longer period of time is harder to treat than one that is caught in the very beginning stages.
  2. Remove mold smell as soon as you can by brushing the area. Then wash and dry well. The odor often goes away when the area is dry. You may wish to spray with a fungicide spray or use straight vinegar and place in the sun to dry.
  3. To begin treating the article of clothing that has mildew stains:
  4. Brush off all the mold.
  5. Dry-clean materials that can not be washed. Be sure to point out spots to the cleaners.
  6. Pour a small amount of white vinegar directly onto affected areas of the laundry and allow to soak in for several minutes
  7. Wash clothing in cold water only with a strong detergent, adding one-fourth of a cup of white vinegar at the rinse cycle. Do not use hot water because it will set any lingering mildew stains.
